Matsyafed Fresh Meen

Kerala State Co-operative Federation for Fisheries Development Ltd., popularly known as Matsyafed came into existence on 22nd March 1984 with an objective to improve the socio economic condition of the traditional fishermen of the state. MATSYAFED – is the Apex Federation of 652 Primary Fishermen Development and Welfare Co-operatives which spread over 9 coastal districts and Kottayam, the Inland fishery district.  The Primary task of Matsayfed during its inception was to make the traditional fishermen the owners of fishing inputs as they were exploited by the middlemen to whom they have indebted their production inputs.
MATSYAFED ICE & FREEZING PLANT

Matsyafed Ice and Freezing Plant having a freezing capacity of 30 Tons per day with a storage capacity of 600 Tons is one of the largest Ice & Freezing Plants in the Government sector. Main business focus of this unit is  on processing and export of tuna and other different fish products to various countries such as Thailand, China, Iran, Turkey, France, Spain, Oman, Dubai, Tunisia, Algeria, Sri Lanka, etc. The plant has a special facility called tuna terminal to export high value tuna products to developed markets.

COMMON PRE-PROCESSING CENTRE

Matsyafed Common Pre-Processing Centre, Sakthikulangara, Kollam is a joined venture with MPEDA and is engaged in pre-processing activities mainly aimed at the rehabilitation of women pre-processing workers and also to meet the quality standards of fish and fishery products exported from our country. The plant is having European Union (EU) approval and can accomodate 280 pre-processing workers in one shift. It is also serving as a base station for supplying fresh fish to Fresh Fish Marts of Matsyafed.
